Vierge secures 5th place after battling in the leading group & Schrötter follows in 7th in Brno

Both Dynavolt Intact GP riders started the second half of the season with a solid top ten result. Xavi Vierge led a strong battle in the leading group in the Czech Grand Prix, finishing in fifth position, while Marcel Schrötter followed shortly behind in seventh place.

In Warm-Up on Sunday morning, Xavi Vierge was able to make the final positive set-up changes with his team for the upcoming 19-lap race. The 21-year-old had a rocket start and arrived in the first corner as third. From that moment on the Spaniard fought in the top group. Only when he could no longer intervene in the battle for the podium with a decreasing front tyre, he tried to keep his fifth place and finally crossed the finish line only three seconds behind the final winner and new championship leader, Miguel Oliveira.

Xavi defended his seventh place in the World Championship and after 10 out of 19 races and 90 championship points, he is now only 23 points away from the overall top-3.

Marcel Schrötter followed only 0.3 seconds behind his Intact GP teammate in seventh position after giving everything in the chasing group throughout the race to make up for the five places lost at the start. The 25-year-old, fastest on Friday, finishing Saturday in the top five, finishing second in the warm-up and probably having the best pace of all others, could not hide his disappointment after the race. He truly expected much more.

Nonetheless, with a further nine championship points collected in Brno, the focus is now directly towards the Austrian Grand Prix, which will take place next weekend at the Red Bull Ring from 10th to 12th of August. There, both Kalex riders will try to catch up on the small gap that's still missing for the crucial step to the top.

Xavi Vierge
The race was not easy. At the beginning of the weekend we were working hard and yesterday in Qualifying finally we made a good step and a good job during this weekend. We were working only for the race and today's 5th is the result. We miss something for the last part of the race. The final four laps it was a shame because I tried to keep up, but my front tyre was finished. At the end I wanted to safe 5th position. Everyone is very strong in Moto2, if you loose half a second you are 20th. The level gets higher every year and the races are difficult from the first until the last lap. I'm happy with today's race, we missed only three seconds to the victory. This is a good way to start the second half of the season.

Marcel Schrötter
I had the feeling that I couldn't ride faster than the others on the brakes or while accelerating on the straight. That's weird, after I was at least in the top 5 in each session. There have been races this season where it has not been enough from my side, but today the bike just felt different than in the practice sessions. I couldn't demonstrate what I had previously shown. I don't know what it was. That's pretty frustrating. In the Warm-Up this morning I was able to ride very good lap times for nine to ten laps in a row and in the race I was far from that. In the end, we finished just three and a half seconds behind the winner, so it's not a disaster. I just couldn't achieve what we expected. Now we have to check, why we struggled. Maybe the conditions had an impact. It was cloudy and a bit windy for the first time this weekend. We have to evaluate everything and then we continue to Austria, where we will attack again.

Xavi took a step forward in qualifying yesterday but was not 100% happy despite the good lap time. In today's Warm-Up we have changed something about the clutch setting, which he really liked. But in general we have to step up the game. There is still a little something missing. He fought very well in the race and tried everything. Towards the end, he realized that he can no longer intervene in the action in front and has then managed to keep his fifth place. He took the maximum out of it and we can be satisfied with that.
It was a pity for Marcel, because we expected a lot more. All weekend he had the best rhythm of all riders. Unfortunately, he did not catch a great start and thus lost his good starting position. Lap time wise he could have fought at the top. He was also not so happy with his bike in the race. We have to analyze this calmly now.
We are still one of the best teams in the team ranking and we have both riders in the top ten, which is a great result in Moto2. Of course, we want more and we want to move forward, so we will try everything and work hard. Spielberg is already our next opportunity for this and we will use it!
