Fifth place for Schrötter & Unfortunate end of the Aragon-weekend for Vierge

Once again a strong race by Marcel Schrötter, who finished fifth at MotorLand Aragon. A difficult weekend on the other hand for Dynavolt Intact GP teammate Xavi Vierge, who crashed halfway through the race.

On Sunday, in the scorching heat at the MotorLand, Marcel Schrötter was back in the top group. This time, however, he could not intervene in the podium battle. After the 25-year-old started the 21-lap thriller from second place, soon had to let pole setter and the eventual Aragon winner, Brad Binder, pass by together with Alex Marquez. After the Italians Francesco Bagnaia and Lorenzo Baldassarri had passed the Intact GP rider as well, he fought in fifth for most of the race and finally defended this position successfully against Joan Mir, who dangerously caught up with Miguel Oliveira in tow.

With eleven extra points, Marcel Schrötter strengthened his seventh World Championship ranking. He is currently 15 points ahead of Mattia Pasini and has five remaining races of the season to try to reduce the 26 points to the top three.

Teammate Xavi Vierge unfortunately had to step back into tenth place in the overall standings. After a difficult Aragon weekend, on which the 21-year-old just could not build up an optimal feeling and no smooth rhythm. His race came to an early end due to a crash in the 14th lap. The Spaniard lost control of his front in turn 5 and slipped off the track. Luckily he stayed unharmed. However, he takes a few question marks from his home race, which must be solved in two weeks.

Thailand is the next opportunity for Xavi Vierge as well as for Marcel Schrötter to attack from scratch. The 15th race of the season at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram / Thailand from October 5th to 7th will be a new challenge for the entire Moto2 field.

Marcel Schrötter
Unfortunately, I did not feel as comfortable in the race for four or five laps as I did in practice. We had some critical moments with the front all weekend. I could bypass it very well over the last days and nothing ever happened, but unfortunately we never managed to solve it completely. During the weekend there is no time to adjust the bike when you're fast because then there is the risk of losing the right path. In the race, with over 21 laps, it's a bit different if you always have the feeling that you are losing the front. My tyre was very strange to ride, although in the end it got better. Of course I'm a bit disappointed, but a top 5 result is not bad, we were bringing home good points again and we are always with the front - that's important and that's how we must continue. The ridge on our level, to be between crashing or taking home a few points is just very narrow. Of course we want to get on the podium, but we cannot always do that despite the fantastic speed. We cannot force it. In the Moto2 everybody is strong. Baldassari for example, who has had problems in the last few weeks, was very strong again today and that shows that you just have to keep working. I am sure that we will be with the front again in the next race.

It was a very difficult weekend and we had problems all the time. Everyone worked really hard, I tried to find a solution too, but we just didn't find anything. I want to apologize to my team and all the sponsors. I did my best, but I couldn't solve the problem. The crash in the race was not a nice ending, but it reflected our difficulties of the weekend. Now we have a week to continue working hard before we are ready for Thailand. I'm already looking forward to the overseas races and to the new challenge. At the moment it is quite a difficult situation for me, but we have to fight to get back to our level.

Xavi did not really get it together all weekend and just couldn't find any rhythm. It has run through like a golden thread all weekend. In spite of different adjustments and trying a lot of things, we turned around in a circle and it kind of always remained the same way. We still have a lot of question marks, because when we were here for the test, it went pretty well. I think it was just not his weekend and we will now analyse everything. We will use the time to find out why and make it better next time.
Marcel has been strong all weekend and has been able to ride a very good rhythm in every practice session. The race didn't go as well as we had hoped, but a fifth place is a top result. I am nevertheless convinced that more is possible. For Thailand, like all the other team, we have no experience. This is a new challenge and we like to accept it and we are all looking forward to it already. Overseas is always fun and in the past we have achieved quite good results there as well.
