Intact GP Duo chasing the podium in extremely thrilling Barcelona-GP

It was another great team performance by the Dynavolt Intact GP riders Marcel Schrötter and Xavi Vierge, who secured fourth and fifth place after a nerve-wracking podium hunt at the Grand Prix of Catalunya.

The Gran Premi de Catalunya was without a doubt one of the most exciting fights of the German Moto2 racing team. Once again, Marcel Schrötter had an incredible start and followed four laps long in second position behind Alex Marquez until a mistake has probably cost him a certain podium finish.

After Miguel Oliveira and Fabio Quartararo had moved past the 25-year-old, Marcel over-braked in the slipstream of the trio, forcing him to go wide in lap seven. From eighth place, he confidently battled his way back until he had caught up to Xavi Vierge, who was in fourth after having left rivals like Pasini, Bagnaia and Binder behind him.

Together, the Intact GP pair started their chase after Alex Marquez in third position. With five laps to go, Marcel overtook his teammate and did his best to try to finish his 100th Moto2 race on the podium. In the end, it was not quite enough and the duo crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth position.

In the championship ranking, Xavi Vierge, who finished his home Grand Prix with remarkable eleven points after some initial difficulties on this weekend, moved up to fifth place, while Marcel Schrötter defended his ninth place in the Moto2 championship by a another 13 points.

In only two weeks time, from June 29th to July 1st, the season continues in Assen with the DutchTT, the eighth race of the season.

Marcel Schrötter
I gave everything to catch up with Alex Marquez. In the end I was close for a brief moment, but it was not enough. He just rode very smoothly and I could not go any faster. The mistake cost us the podium today. It happened when I was in the slipstream of Quartararo, Marquez and Oliveira on the straight on the way to the corner. I felt like the guys were slowing down a bit earlier and then I didn't know where to go anymore and I had to open up and go wide. I didn't want to cut short either, to avoid a time penalty. Quartararo rode a super strong race, but Oliveira fell back a bit, so I think that second place would have been possible. That's a pity, but I'm sure the moment will come. We are doing a good job, the team works very well and now we have been with the front guys a few times. I'm definitely satisfied with how things are going. Especially after a race like Mugello, where we were on cloud nine at the time and then fell into a deep hole on Sunday. It's nice to be able to deliver such a performance at the next race. I've always known that I can ride fast, but that's where all the factors come together - the bike, the team, the atmosphere, and also the confidence to know we can do it.

Xavi Vierge
The race was good after the hard weekend. I think we've made a very good job. We kept fighting with the top guys and that's important because in Mugello we lost everything, the confidence because we didn't know the way. Here, when we started this weekend, we had the same problem. But this time we worked very clear, we analyzed everything super good and then we made a good decision for the Sunday's race. Again, we knew we had the potential to fight with the top guys. Now, the team and me know the direction and for the next races it will be better from the first day. In the break before heading to Assen, I will rest a little bit and train to be even stronger. Assen is a super nice track. I like it a lot and I hope we can fight with the front guys again.

Jürgen Lingg
The result is, of course great. Considering the problems Xavi had all weekend, he cam back so strong in the race, which was just great to watch. To be fair, we expected a good result from Marcel beforehand. He has had a very good pace all weekend and we were sure that he would not repeat the mistake of Mugello. He fulfilled our expectations. Fourth and fifth place is a top team result. It was good and it can go on like this. I pretty sure, that soon and with a bit more luck they will end up on the podium.
