Fantastic performance of Vierge and Schrötter in Jerez

In the Grand Prix of Spain Xavi Vierge barely missed his second podium of the year in fourth place, while Marcel Schrötter impressively fought his way through the Moto2 field crossing the finish line in seventh place.

On Sunday, both Dynavolt Intact GP riders proved at the "Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto" that the strong races they showed in Austin two weeks ago before their unfortunate crashes, were not a one-off thing.

Xavi Vierge stormed from the seventh to the fifth place within eight laps and shortly after Alex Marquez crashed out of the leading group, the 21-year-old moved to fourth, from where he tried to close the gap to championship leader Francesco Bagnaia and fight for another podium. With three laps remaining, he finally caught up behind the Italian, when he made a mistake and almost lost the front. Thus, a podium finish was out of reach, but that didn't reduce the joy of the fourth place and the 13 points in any way.

Marcel Schrötter literally rolled through field from behind in Jerez. After the 25-year-old landed in 17th place in qualifying, he was also penalized on Sunday by another three grid positions. The reason was "too slow riding on the racing line" in turn nine during qualifying. Nonetheless, he made a rocket start from row seven and was already thirteenth after the first lap. Step by step he left one rider after another behind him. With ten laps to go, he overtook Sam Lowes and grabbed the seventh place and even as the Brit came dangerously close again, he defended his position well until the finish line. The German repeated his best result of the season so far from Qatar. This time, however, he got this result with two torn ligaments in his left shoulder, which is absolutely remarkable. In the championship ranking, he climbed into ninth place thanks to the nine points of today's race.

Before going to Le Mans for the fifth round of the World Championship from the 18th to 20th of May the Dynavolt Intact GP team will stop off for a two-day test on Wednesday and Thursday in Aragon next week.

Xavi Vierge
We made a good race and had a good weekend in general. This is a difficult track for us, because we always miss two, or three tenths. All weekend we have been working on the race pace with the team. I knew before the start of the race that I don't have them last two tenths but I still tried. Every lap I tried and when I came closer to Bagnaia on the last ten laps, I though I could fight for the podium in the last lap. I made a mistake by almost losing the front in the fifth corner. After that I had a little problem with the front tyre. That was the corner I was a bit stronger than him but then I couldn't fight for the podium anymore. I did my best until the end. Today it just wasn't possible. Still, it was a good race and important points for the Championship. We have two days of testing in Aragon now and we hope to find that little step in order to fight for the podium in every race. We will work on the tyres because over the race distance when the tyres drop, it is difficult for us to be faster than the others.

Marcel Schrötter
I had a good start again, got off the line well and rode into the first corner with a lot of speed outside on the curb. I was not in a good position because I had to go outside and there you also have to be lucky, because it can quickly become critical, if someone inside makes a mistake. I was able to catch up five or six positions in the first lap and I realized that my pace was good and that I did not have to push too hard. I tried to keep up and to overtake one by one. When I was behind Lowes, I was aware that I was faster, but I also saw that he was catching up to Joan Mir at that moment. As a result, I did not want to attack too early and rather close the gap together with him. We then both passed Mir and I also managed to overtake Lowes. When I saw that he was a second behind me, I tried to keep that lead. Except for one or two small mistakes, I made a faultless race. The last eight laps had been tough. The left turns were extremely hard. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with how it went with the shoulder. A week ago I would have said, I cannot ride. I am happy how the shoulder has improved and recovered in such a short time. Mental strength is important in racing, so I tried to stay focused and to ride clean and without making bigger mistakes. I knew this was crucial in the race on this track.

Our two riders showed really strong races. That Marcel can achieve such a great result two weeks after such an injury is great. In the past, we struggled to achieve such results even without injuries. How he fought all weekend was really exemplary. I secretly hoped that it would be great if he could score two or three points. But he finishes in the top ten, scoring nine points, and this is just awesome. You could see that the race took its toll on him, but that only proves his fighting spirit and his strong will. I'm very proud of that.
Xavi also rode a great race. We analysed Austin very precisely and the mistakes he has made in Austin did not happen again here. He finished in an amazing fourth place and it could have almost been a podium. But we have to be satisfied! Now we will go testing. We just have to find a little something and hopefully we'll make a step forward.
