Schrötter again on podium hunt

In the Dutch Grand Prix Marcel Schrötter repeatedly fought for a podium position and crossed the finish line for the third time as a strong fourth, whereas Dynavolt Intact GP teammate Xavi Vierge unfortunately crashed while trying to catch up with the leading group.

As the other days before, the Sunday in Assen showed it's sunniest side. Strong wind was certainly a pleasant cool-off for the more than 100,000 spectators at the Dutch TT, but also a challenge for the riders with their motorcycles on track.

Marcel Schrötter was one of the podium contenders for four consecutive races. So far, he has been able to achieve three outstanding fourth places and started the race three consecutive times from the front row.

In Holland, Marcel Schrötter followed the race winner Francesco Bagnaia for a long time in second position. With the Marc VDS duo in the back of his neck, he had to let Alex Marquez pass after some while. Soon after Lorenzo Baldassarri passed through as well and another chase for the podium started for Marcel. The 25-year-old successfully kept Joan Mir behind him. However, he wasn't able to do much about the onrushing Fabio Quartararo, and eventually he took fourth place after the retirement of Baldassarri.

Xavi Vierge on the other hand finished the eighth race of the season with an unfortunate crash. The 21-year-old started from fifth place and pushed at the absolute limit to not lose touch with the leading group. After a hard duel with Baldassarri, he made a mistake in turn one in the tenth lap and crashed out.

After zero points Xavi Vierge slipped back to the sixth place in the Moto2 Championship ranking. Marcel Schrötter also lost a position in the overall classification and now arrives with a 31-point gap behind him as World Championship tenth to his home race, which takes place in two weeks from 13 to 15 July at the Sachsenring.

Marcel Schrötter
Bagnaia really rode a perfect race from the first lap onwards. There were one or two corners where he was faster than me and I always tried to catch up elsewhere. For a few laps, I was able to keep up. Until Marquez came but I still was able to hold on well without any problems. After two or three laps, I realized that it was getting harder. For the last ten laps I got some problems with the traction. Especially out of sector three, in the turns 10 and 11 before the back straight, I could barely keep the corner speed and therefore I did not have the necessary acceleration. In addition, it was extremely windy, windier than the last two days. I tried to keep the gap constant, until the end when Quartararo overtook me. His tyres were less worn up and he was able to ride very tight lines, especially in the long corners in sector one, where I couldn't keep up at all. He had the better bike over the distance. Nevertheless, it's our turn and we will continue to follow our goals. We were doing a great job over the weekend and in the race, but of course it's a bit annoying to become 'only' fourth again. Sachsenring is in two weeks and there we will attack again!

First of all I want to say sorry to the team, because I made a mistake. And then I'm very disappointed, because we work so hard, but we still miss something. The problem is, that we don't know where this little step is. I tried very hard, but I lost a lot with the traction and also with the turning. I had to recover everything in the braking points. I tried to stay calm and to try to catch the riders in front, but I was on the limit all the time and had many near-crashes. Finally I couldn't save this crash. It was my mistake, because I saw the front group and also realized that I didn't have the same rhythm as them. The last few races I felt similar, so I wanted to finish today as close to the front as possible. But if we want to fight for the Championship this is not the way. We need to work a lot to find what we miss compared to the rest. I hope for the next race we are more prepared to achieve our goal.

The air within the front is paper-thin. But we are not here to just be part of it, but we want to achieve something. And for that you have to take a certain risk. Xavi tried everything. He generally had a difficult weekend. He didn't want to lose the connection, saw the tip and wanted to keep up. Such a crash can happen.
Marcel rode a strong race. You couldn't see any mistakes and he permanently fought in the leading group. The outcome was a bit unlucky, but I am very satisfied with his performance. He has improved again compared to the last races. At the end he got problems with the rear grip, but still managed well and kept Joan Mir behind. With a bit of luck, he will ride on the podium. It was a strong performance over the weekend. We can be proud and we have to build up on that. We still need a little something, but we will surely find that if we continue like this.
